What is the cholera vaccine?
Who is it for?
You may benefit from cholera vaccination if you meet any of the following:
- Travelling to Africa, Asia, or the Middle East where cholera is present
- Planning to stay in areas with limited clean water or sanitation
- Working in healthcare, humanitarian, or disaster-relief roles in high-risk regions
- Visiting friends or family in endemic areas
- Travelling for extended periods (more than a few weeks)
- Have a weakened immune system (speak to our team about suitability)

How the vaccine works and what to expect
Things to know before your appointment
Common side effects and contraindications:
- Mild stomach upset
- Nausea or diarrhoea
- Headache
- Fever (rare)
- Acute diarrhoea or vomiting (wait until resolved before vaccination)
- Severe allergic reaction to vaccine components (very rare)
- Immunosuppressive therapy (discuss with our team)
If you have a fever, acute diarrhoea, or vomiting, we'll reschedule your appointment until you've recovered. If you're taking immunosuppressive medications or have a weakened immune system, speak to our team before booking to check whether the vaccine is suitable for you.
