What is our medicated weight loss service?
Our weight loss service combines prescription weight loss medication with regular pharmacist support. We work with treatments licensed in the UK, including Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide), which are weekly injections that help reduce appetite, slow digestion, and make it easier to eat less without feeling constantly hungry.
These medicines are not a quick fix and they are not for everyone. They work best alongside healthier eating, more activity, and better sleep, which is why every patient on our programme has a structured consultation, ongoing reviews, and clear lifestyle guidance from our team. Our role is to make sure the treatment is safe and suitable for you, prescribe it appropriately, and support you while you take it.
Who is it for?
Weight loss medication is intended for adults whose weight is affecting their health, not for cosmetic weight loss. Our pharmacist will check your suitability against current UK prescribing guidance during your consultation.
You may be suitable for our service if you:
- Are an adult aged 18 or over
- Have a BMI of 30 or above
- Have a BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related condition
- Have tried diet and exercise without sustained results
- Are willing to make supporting lifestyle changes
- Can attend regular review appointments
- Are happy to self-inject once a week
If our pharmacist decides the treatment is not right for you, we will explain why and suggest safer alternatives.
How the service works
Your first appointment lasts around 30 minutes and is held in our private consultation room. Our pharmacist will take a full medical history, ask about your weight history and goals, check your blood pressure, height and weight, and calculate your BMI. We will talk through how the medication works, what to expect, the realistic benefits, and the possible side effects, so you can make an informed choice.
If treatment is suitable, we will issue a private prescription and supply your first month's pen along with full instructions on how to inject, store and dispose of it safely. You will then return for shorter follow-up reviews, usually monthly, where we check your progress, adjust your dose if needed, and support any lifestyle changes you are working on.
Things to know before you book
Mounjaro and Wegovy are powerful, well studied medicines, but they are prescription only for good reason. Most people get on well with them, particularly once the dose is increased gradually, but side effects such as nausea, reflux, constipation or tiredness are common in the first few weeks.
There are also situations where these medicines are not safe to prescribe. Please tell our pharmacist about your full medical history at your consultation. None of the points below automatically rule treatment out, but they help us make a safe, personalised decision.
Treatment may not be suitable if you have:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Type 1 diabetes
- Personal thyroid cancer history
- Family medullary thyroid cancer
- Severe gastrointestinal disease
- Pancreatitis history
- Active eating disorder
- Severe kidney or liver disease
If treatment is not suitable, we will help you explore other options through your GP or NHS weight management services.
After starting treatment
Most patients start on a low introductory dose, which is gradually increased over several months to reduce side effects and find the dose that works best for you. We will book regular reviews so we can monitor your weight, blood pressure, side effects and overall wellbeing, and adjust your treatment plan as you go.
If you experience persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, signs of dehydration, or any reaction at the injection site that does not settle, please contact us or your GP. Seek urgent medical advice from NHS 111 or call 999 for severe stomach pain that spreads to the back, signs of an allergic reaction, or any sudden serious symptoms, as these can be rare but important warning signs.
“The pharmacist took the time to talk through whether this was actually right for me, rather than just handing over a prescription. The monthly reviews have kept me on track and I feel really supported.”

Pharmacist-led care
Every consultation, prescription and review is carried out by a trained pharmacist at our Worksop clinic.
